KATIE PORTER JOINS GIFFORDS IN CALLING OUT MIMI WALTERS FOR BEING “BOUGHT” BY THE NRA

Giffords' gun safety group targets vulnerable GOP incumbents, including Mimi Walters in CA-45, as 'bought' by NRA

Leading Democratic challenger Katie Porter has made Common Sense Gun Reform a central part of her campaign and is a proud Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate

Irvine -- Leading CA-45 congressional candidate Katie Porter today made the following statement about Mimi Walters being named a primary target by Giffords:

“Like so many of you, I am tired of seeing Mimi Walters offer her thoughts and prayers after every mass shooting, and then voting however the NRA wants -- regardless of our families’ safety,” said Katie Porter.

“Mimi has taken nearly $20,000 from the NRA and refuses to face constituents about the issue of gun safety in our country.

“Common sense gun reform is one of the key issues in my campaign because it is what matters to so many families here in the 45th. In Congress, I will fight for a ban on assault weapons, mandatory background checks on all gun sales, and a healthcare system that provides comprehensive mental health treatment.

“Orange County families have made their feelings heard, time and again, that common sense gun protections are our values. That’s why I am running for Congress  – to stand up to special interests like the NRA and stand up for Orange County families.”

Katie has not only refused to accept money from the NRA, she has pledged not to accept campaign contributions from corporate PACs, big banks, big oil, or big pharma.

Katie earned early endorsements from Senators Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren and was the first House challenger to receive the endorsement from EMILY’s List.

Katie Porter is a consumer protection attorney, UC Irvine Professor of Law, and mother of three who has spent decades taking on the big banks that hurt middle-class families – and winning. Now, she's taking that fight against powerful special interests to Washington.
