Irvine – The Consumer Federation of California endorsed Katie Porter for Congress over two-term incumbent Mimi Walters.
“We are endorsing Katie Porter to be the next U.S. Representative of California’s 45th Congressional seat based on her strong record and leadership on consumer rights issues,” said Richard Holober, Executive Director of the Consumer Federation of California. “Katie took on the Wall Street banks during the housing crisis and won - saving billions for California homeowners. We know in Washington she’ll do the same and stand up to the special interests.”
“I’m honored to have the support of the Consumer Federation of California who share my belief in putting the consumer interest ahead of corporate profit,” said Katie Porter. “In Congress, I'll stand up to special interests and leaders of both parties to do what’s right for Orange County families.”
As a Consumer Protection Attorney, Katie Porter has spent nearly twenty years fighting powerful special interests and Wall Street banks on behalf of consumers and families. She’s a national leader in consumer protection and has won big victories against financial institutions that cheat consumers.
Before the housing bubble burst, Katie was one of the first to sound the alarm about Wall Street’s predatory practices targeting homeowners.
She has been a key player in the fight against abusive credit card fees and, in 2010, helped pass important federal credit card protections for families. She has written three books that document how Washington special interests skew our laws and cut off the legal rights of families who play by the rules.
The Consumer Federation of California is a nonprofit advocacy organization founded in 1960 that works on legislation and regulations to protect consumer interests.
