October 27, 2018 - Orange County congressional candidate Katie Porter issued the following statement regarding the mass shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA today.
Said Katie Porter:
"On the heels of pipe bombs sent to former presidents, elected officials, and the media, we learned this morning of a mass shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh. Hate and violence are becoming too common in our communities.  Regardless of our politics or religion, we are Americans first.
"I send my condolences to the victims’ families and I thank the police and first responders for their bravery. I condemn this violent, anti-Semitic attack against the Jewish community. Our places of worship and gathering should never be targets of hate or violence.
"As a mom of three young children, I’ve had enough of Washington politicians who are too afraid of crossing their donors in the gun lobby to take common-sense action to protect our families. We cannot afford inaction in Washington. To honor the victims and to stand with the survivors, we must come together to reduce gun violence and to reject efforts to divide us against each other."
