EMILY’S LIST ENDORSES KATIE PORTER FOR CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR
Leading Democratic Group Commits to Helping Elect CA’s First Woman Governor
Porter Consolidates State and National Support, Clinches Major Financial & Political Backing in Gubernatorial Bid
Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Katie Porter to be California’s next Governor.
“Katie Porter has spent her career holding the powerful accountable, fighting to lower costs, and taking on Wall Street and Trump administration officials to deliver results for California’s working families,” said EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler. “At a time when President Trump and his allies are attacking Californians’ health care and making their lives more expensive, Katie is the proven leader California needs. EMILYs List was proud to be an early supporter of Katie in 2018 when she flipped a critical congressional district, and now California has the chance to make history by helping us elect Katie as the state’s first woman governor.”
“I am grateful to EMILYs List for their support in my campaign for California Governor,” said Katie Porter. “Now more than ever, we need leaders with backbone who will cut through the BS and deliver real results for families. And there’s nothing that Donald Trump hates more than facing down a strong, powerful woman. For decades, EMILYs List has backed winner after winner, helping elect pro-choice Democratic women to public office. They were instrumental in helping me flip a Republican stronghold blue in 2018, and together I’m confident we will make history again.”
EMILYs List’s endorsement builds on Porter’s growing momentum as the frontrunner in the race for California Governor. Over the past few weeks, Porter has consolidated support and gained significant momentum—receiving statewide endorsements from NUHW, Teamsters, UAW, and SMART. Porter has led the Democratic field by double digits, on average, in every poll since July. She was also the race’s top fundraiser in the last reporting period, raising over $3 million from thousands of grassroots supporters across the state.
