TRANSIT WORKERS ENDORSE KATIE PORTER FOR GOVERNOR
Porter Tallies Up Fifth Statewide Labor Endorsement
Amalgamated Transit Union Backs Porter as a Fighter for Working People
Today, the California Conference Board of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) announced their endorsement of Katie Porter to be California’s next governor. ATU is the largest union of transit workers in the country, representing thousands of bus drivers, subway and light rail operators, mechanics, and others across the state.
“The Amalgamated Transit Union is proud to endorse Katie Porter for Governor of California,” said Jeff Shaffer, Chairman of the California Conference Board of the ATU and President of ATU Local 1277. “Katie has proven time and again that she fights for working people and understands the vital role public transit plays in keeping our communities connected. We believe she will be a strong advocate for increased transit funding, for protecting the safety and dignity of the workers who keep our buses and trains running, and for ensuring that riders have access to safe, reliable, and affordable transportation across our state.”
The Amalgamated Transit Union joins a growing list of labor unions and community leaders who believe Porter, the clear frontrunner in the race, is the best choice to move California forward. They are Porter’s fifth statewide labor endorsement.
“I’m honored and grateful to be endorsed by the California Conference Board of the Amalgamated Transit Union,” said Katie Porter. “Our state’s transit workers work long hours keeping trains, buses, and public transit systems running for Californians to get to work and travel across the state. Public transit is good for businesses, workers, our climate, and our economy, and as Governor I’ll continue to invest in the workers and infrastructure that connects our communities.”
Porter has also been endorsed by the Teamsters, NUHW, UAW, and SMART, along with national organizations like EMILYs List, End Citizens United, Vote Mama, Elect Democratic Women, and Reps. Dave Min and Derek Tran. She continues to lead the race for governor in polling and fundraising.
