New Video: Katie Porter Hammers Billionaire & Corporate Money Pouring Into Race for CA Governor

With 66,000 Individual Donors & An Average Contribution of Just $68, Porter Contrasts Her People-Powered Campaigns with Opponents Relying on Special Interests and Six-Figure Checks

Katie Porter: “With everything going on in our state and country, do we really want to give control of California to the same billionaires who helped cause this mess?”

IRVINE— In a new video released today, Katie Porter hammered the billionaire and corporate money pouring into the California governor’s race, drawing a stark contrast between her opponents relying on those special interests and her own people-powered campaign. Driven entirely by grassroots supporters, Katie’s average contribution — just $68 — is the lowest in the race, and she’s received support from more than 66,000 individual donors. She is the only candidate in the race who never has and never will take corporate money.

Recently filed fundraising disclosures reveal other candidates are taking a different approach — taking in hundreds of thousands of dollars from the ultra-wealthy and well-connected.

What does it mean to be a people-powered campaign?

It means proudly having the support of tens of thousands of donors, the people who understand that I’ll always have your back.

That’s why I’m not taking any corporate money and never have. And I’m the only candidate in the race who’s always refused corporate money.

As Governor, I won’t owe a thing to the billionaires and corporations used to getting their way.

Every other major candidate is relying on the same big money interests who buy access to power.

And one of my opponents, a billionaire himself, has only been supported by 82 people, with their average donation being more than $333,000.

That’s more than what most Californians make in five years.

With everything going on in our state and country, do we really want to give control of California to the same billionaires who helped cause this mess?

I’m Katie Porter, and I still think democracy shouldn’t be for sale. If you agree, I’d love to have your support.

Katie Porter has the momentum as the leading Democrat in the race for California Governor. A new poll, the first with the current field of candidates, showed Katie with 14% of the vote, leading other Democrats by a significant margin. When voters heard just one simple message about Katie’s record taking on Trump and vision for lowering costs, her support soared to 22%—overtaking the two Republicans in the race as well. Katie’s grassroots coalition is the largest in the race and continues to grow as voters tune into the election. Porter’s support includes the backing of five statewide unions: National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), Teamsters, United Auto Workers (UAW), Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), and Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transit Workers Union (SMART). She has also been endorsed by Rep. Dave Min, Rep. Derek Tran, and other major groups like EMILYs List, Elect Democratic Women, Fund Her, California Women’s List, and Vote Mama PAC.
