Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris: “Katie is a fighter who has gone toe to toe with powerful CEOs and Trump officials–and won”

IRVINE—Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (AD-73) today endorsed Katie Porter in her bid to be California’s next governor, citing her record taking on Trump officials in Congress and fighting for working families. 

“California has never had a woman governor. It is long overdue,” said Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris. “Katie is a single working mom, who understands firsthand the squeeze California families are feeling right now, from the lack of child care to the high cost of college. And Katie is a fighter, who has gone toe to toe with powerful CEOs and Trump officials–and won. I am proud to endorse Katie Porter for governor, because I know she will be a champion for families.”

Petrie-Norris and Porter have previously worked together to lower costs and advance climate resilience in California. 

“Assemblymember Petrie-Norris and I have the same goal: make life easier for California families,” said Katie Porter. “As moms and legislators, we know what it takes to bring down costs for families across the state. When I’m Governor, I look forward to partnering with the Assemblywoman to make California a better place to live, work, and raise a family.” 

Katie Porter leads the Democrats in the race for California Governor. Despite billionaire Tom Steyer spending over $120 million in the past five months, Porter remains tied as the top Democrat in the race—without spending a dime on advertising until this week. She has the highest favorability and name ID of the field and enters the last seven weeks of this race with the strength and momentum needed to win on June 2nd. In just the past week, Porter raised over $1 million from grassroots donors and surpassed more than 100,000 individual donors to her campaign.

Katie’s grassroots coalition is the largest in the race and continues to grow as voters tune into the election. Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris joins other elected officials backing Katie, like Senator Elizabeth Warren and Reps. Dave Min (CA-47) and Derek Tran (CA-45). Katie also has the most labor endorsements in the race, and nearly a dozen influential organizations such as EMILYs List and End Citizens United are supporting her bid for governor.
