CONSUMER FEDERATION OF CALIFORNIA ENDORSES KATIE PORTER FOR CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR

Porter, the Only Candidate to Refuse Corporate Money, Earns Key Consumer Protection Endorsement

Consumer Federation Touts Porter’s Record Standing Up to Special Interests

IRVINE—The Consumer Federation of California has endorsed Katie Porter to be California’s next Governor, joining a long list of organizations backing Katie’s leading gubernatorial campaign. As the only candidate who has never taken a cent of corporate money, Porter’s record protecting consumers and standing up to special interests is unparalleled in the race for California governor.

“The Consumer Federation of California is pleased to endorse Katie Porter for California Governor,” said CFC Executive Director Robert Herrell. “As a decades-long consumer advocate, Katie Porter is obviously well-versed on consumer protection issues and has concrete proposals to help consumers and California families survive this affordability crisis. Katie Porter would make an excellent governor of California and CFC is pleased to support her.”

Porter, whose ballot designation is “consumer protection advocate,” is famous for asking tough questions and using her whiteboard to grill corporate CEOs in congressional hearings. She has taken on the Big Banks, Big Pharma, and Big Oil for cheating families and taking advantage of Californians.

“I am so honored to receive the endorsement of the Consumer Federation of California,” said Katie Porter. “From standing up for families who had fallen victim to predatory lending during the 2008 financial crisis to taking on Big Pharma on the floor of Congress, my entire career has been built on protecting working families from special interests. I look forward to partnering with the Consumer Federation of California to fight for families in Sacramento.”

The Consumer Federation of California endorsement builds on Porter’s broad coalition in the race for Governor. Other major groups backing Porter include End Citizens United, EMILYs List, Elect Democratic Women, Women’s Political Committee, Fund Her, California Women’s List, and Vote Mama PAC, as well as elected officials like Senator Elizabeth Warren, Reps. Dave Min (CA-47), Derek Tran (CA-45), Robert Garcia (CA-42), and Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (AD-73). Katie has earned the support of the most organized labor unions in this race, including UNAC/UHCP, Orange County Employees Association, IBEW Local 441, National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), Teamsters California, United Auto Workers (UAW), Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), and Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transit Workers Union (SMART). Leading media outlets like the San Francisco Chronicle and the Sacramento Bee are backing Porter as well, calling her the “most impressive” candidate in the race.
