New Poll: Katie Porter Leads Democratic Field In Race For California Governor

Porter in Second Behind a MAGA Republican, Proving She is the Strongest Choice to Prevent a Republican Lock-Out

A new independent poll released today by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) shows Katie Porter again leading the Democratic field for governor with 13% of the vote. Steve Hilton, a former Fox News host and MAGA extremist, is just one point ahead, with 14% of the vote. Another Republican, Chad Bianco, is in third behind Katie.

Katie’s strength in the polls reflects her strong base of support and growing excitement among grassroots supporters. Katie went viral over the weekend after a rousing speech to the California Democratic Convention in which she brought back her signature whiteboard to send a choice message to Donald Trump. She was also recently endorsed by Senator Elizabeth Warren and the Orange County Employees Association, one of the largest independent public sector unions in the state.

“California voters are fired up to elect a progressive candidate who will deliver single payer health care, stand up to Donald Trump, billionaires, and special interests, and tackle California’s cost crisis,” said Peter Opitz, a campaign spokesperson. “No matter who has entered this race or how many millions billionaires have poured into their campaigns, Katie’s base of support remains strong because voters know she has a record of delivering wins for Californians—bringing down costs, holding the powerful accountable, and fighting for a government that works for everyone, not just the ultrarich. Workers across the state are rallying behind her campaign because they know she is the best candidate to take on a Republican and live up to our progressive values.”

Katie’s grassroots coalition is the largest and strongest in the race. Porter is running to put Californians, not massive corporations, first. As governor, she will deliver single payer health care, less expensive housing, free child care for all, zero tuition at UCs and CSUs, and no CA income tax for families making under $100,000. Katie’s coalition includes: IBEW Local 441, Orange County Employees Association (OCEA), National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), Teamsters California, United Auto Workers (UAW), Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), and Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transit Workers Union (SMART). Senator Elizabeth Warren, Rep. Dave Min, Rep. Derek Tran, and other major groups like EMILYs List, Elect Democratic Women, Fund Her, California Women’s List, and Vote Mama PAC are backing Porter too.
