Katie Porter Blasts “Brazenly Cynical” Adam Schiff Ploy To Save His Political Career

“This ad is about furthering his own political career, boxing out qualified Democratic women candidates, and boosting a Republican candidate to do it”

IRVINE—Congresswoman and U.S. Senate candidate Katie Porter today blasted a new ad released by her Democratic opponent Adam Schiff that seeks to game California election rules and prevent voters from having a real choice in November. The ad from Schiff is a cynical attempt to boost flailing Republican candidate Steve Garvey – even tying him to Donald Trump though Garvey recently stated he would consider voting for Joe Biden – all so Schiff can avoid facing Porter in California’s top two general election system.

“Adam Schiff knows he will lose to me in November. That’s what this brazenly cynical ad is about—furthering his own political career, boxing out qualified Democratic women candidates, and boosting a Republican candidate to do it. We need honest leadership, not political games,” Porter wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Schiff’s ad was released one day after Garvey filed a Year-End 2023 Federal Election Commission (FEC) report showing that his campaign has roughly $300,000 cash on hand (COH), not enough to run his own paid communications program in California. It also comes the same day as a new poll showing that Garvey and Porter are tied for second place in the U.S. Senate race.

Rep. Katie Porter is running for the U.S. Senate to shake up the status quo in Washington and unrig the rules bought and paid for by corporate special interests. The only candidate in the race to reject federal lobbyist money and swear off corporate PAC checks since Day 1, Porter is the warrior Californians can trust to speak truth to power and hold greedy corporations, special interests, and government bureaucrats – of both parties – accountable. She maintains a commanding lead over her Democratic opponents among younger voters, Latino voters, and progressives – all of whom are expected to turn out in high numbers in 2024.
