Katie Porter’s Senate Bid Endorsed by U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren

“Katie delivers because she’s smart and she has a backbone made out of steel. She is exactly who Californians need as their next Senator”

Porter earns Warren’s first endorsement of the 2024 cycle

Warren joins chorus of Democrats, good government advocates, progressive groups praising Porter’s bid for Senate

CALIFORNIA—Congresswoman Katie Porter, candidate for U.S. Senate, was today endorsed by U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren. Warren joins a chorus of Democrats, good government advocates, and progressive groups praising Porter’s candidacy for U.S. Senator from California.

“I met Katie long before either of us imagined we’d be serving as elected officials. Even as a young student in my consumer law class, she showed a deep-down commitment to making a difference in people’s lives,” said Warren. “In the years since then, she’s taken on Wall Street and giant corporations that cheat the American people. Katie delivers because she’s smart and she has a backbone made out of steel. She is exactly who Californians need as their next Senator.”

Both consumer protection experts, Porter and Warren regularly work together in Congress to hold powerful interests accountable. They successfully pushed to stop big banks from funding Russia’s war in Ukraine, demanded answers from Wall Street’s self-regulator following a shady deal that undercut consumers, and called out TurboTax for hiring former regulators to block free tax filing services. Porter and Warren also co-authored legislation that passed the House of Representatives that would reduce gun violence.

“Senator Warren fights hard for families, and I’m honored to earn her support,” said Porter. “We’ve worked together to take on payday lenders, Big Oil companies, and large corporations that cheat consumers. California needs a warrior in Washington who will fight for families and take on powerful interests, and I look forward to continuing that fight in the U.S. Senate.”

Porter has received widespread praise since announcing her candidacy for the U.S. Senate earlier this week. She raised a stunning $1.3 million in the first 24 hours of her campaign, with an average donation of $38.23 and support pouring in from all 58 counties in California. Her campaign also released a poll of California voters likely to participate in the 2024 election for U.S. Senate. It shows Porter has a double-digit lead in a likely top-two general election contest if it were held today. In a head-to-head matchup, Porter leads significantly among Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. The same survey shows Porter would be the likely top finisher from a June primary contest with other potential Republican and Democratic candidates. The survey was conducted by widely-respected pollster David Binder Research, an alumnus for campaigns of former President Obama, Governor Newsom, and Vice President Harris. You can read the poll memo here.
