CALIFORNIA—Congresswoman and U.S. Senate candidate Katie Porter has been endorsed by the Lavender Democrats of Orange County (Lavender Democrats OC), an advocacy group dedicated to advancing LGBTQI+ rights. Lavender Democrats OC joins a chorus of Democrats, good government advocates, and progressive groups praising Porter as the fighter Californians need in the U.S. Senate.

“The Lavender Democrats of Orange County is proud to support Katie Porter in her bid for the U.S Senate,” said Lavender Democrats OC Board Members Paul Gonzales, Isabella Rubio, Pauline Hale, Juliet Stowers, Justin Massey, Daniel Orea, and Stephanie Wade. “Katie has been an unequivocal champion for LGBTQI+ rights in the OC and across the nation. We’re thrilled she’s seeking to represent the entire state of California in Washington.”

“Every American should be free to live their truth,” said Porter. “I’m proud to have the support of Lavender Democrats OC, a dedicated group of grassroots activists on the frontlines of protecting LGBTQI+ rights in Orange County. Together, we’ll continue championing the right of every American to love who they love and be who they are.”

A staunch advocate for LGBTQI+ rights, Porter is leading efforts in Congress to protect the freedom of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Katie helped lead efforts to urge the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to end its discriminatory ban on LGBTQI+ Americans donating blood. She also champions the Equality Act, which would make it illegal to discriminate against people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity in housing, employment, and public accommodations. She’s also working to pass legislation into law to better protect LGBTQI+ youth from bullying and harassment.

Porter is the best positioned candidate running to represent California in the U.S. Senate. She leads her Democratic opponents in a majority of surveys released to date of California voters likely to participate in the 2024 election, including recent polling conducted by Berkeley IGS and Los Angeles Times, the Lee campaign, and the Porter campaign. She has a commanding lead over her Democratic opponents among younger voters, voters of color, and no-party-preference voters, all of whom are expected to turn out in high numbers in 2024.
