Katie Porter’s U.S. Senate Bid Endorsed by Central Valley State Senator Melissa Hurtado

CALIFORNIA – Today, California State Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Fresno) endorsed Congresswoman Katie Porter (D-CA) in her campaign for the U.S. Senate. Representing California’s 16th Senate District, which stretches from Bakersfield to Fresno across the Central Valley, Hurtado joins a growing chorus of elected leaders and organizations to endorse Porter’s groundbreaking campaign for the U.S. Senate.

“Katie Porter is tough, fearless, and does not back down from a fight. She is the warrior Central Valley residents need in the United States Senate,” said Hurtado. “Growing up on a farm, Katie understands the struggles Central Valley families are facing – from the lack of affordable housing to skyrocketing health care costs – and she’s laser-focused on solutions. California deserves a leader and policymaker with a clear track record of delivering for Californians, not corporate special interests, and that’s why I’m proud to endorse Katie Porter for the U.S. Senate.

“More young people need to run for office, and it’s leaders like State Senator Melissa Hurtado who are paving the way,” said Porter. “Melissa has made a name for herself as a dedicated, strategic, and empathetic lawmaker, and I’m honored to receive her endorsement. I look forward to hitting the trail together in the coming months to talk to voters across the Central Valley about how we need to shake up Washington to deliver for all Californians.”

Rep. Katie Porter is running for the U.S. Senate to represent all Californians and unrig the Washington status quo. In poll after poll, Porter is the only candidate who consistently advances to a general election, finishing first or second in all surveys released to date of California voters likely to participate in the March 2024 primary. Porter also has a commanding lead over her Democratic opponents among younger voters, women, Latino voters, and progressives – groups expected to turn out in high numbers in 2024.
