Fighting Income Inequality
No Income Tax under $100k
For too long, out-of-touch politicians have prioritized the wrong things, putting corporations and billionaires before hardworking families and workers who built our economy from the bottom up.
Californians are in a cost crisis. But we cannot just talk about affordability. We cannot just say empty words about vague ideas. We need to take action that families and communities will actually feel. As Governor, I will work to eliminate state income tax for Californians making under $100,000. This will make a tangible difference in the lives of millions of people. By putting thousands of dollars back in low- and middle-income Californians’ pockets, paycheck after paycheck, we can deliver immediate relief for people struggling to get by.
And in return, we need to make the richest corporations in our state step up and pay their fair share.
Progressive Corporate Tax
I am the only person in this race who has never taken a dime from corporations or corporate PACs. Fighting corporate power is at the core of who I am and what I would bring as Governor. I cannot be bought to look the other way when powerful corporations or special interests lie, cheat, and rip off Californians.
California’s economy is the 4th largest in the world. Yet our tax structure treats a local small business turning a single dollar in profit the same as a global corporation that brings in billions in profits. We have a flat corporate tax, and that must change. As Governor, I will launch a Progressive Corporate Tax. This is more than a one time windfall: this is a thoughtful and permanent structural shift that will incentivize businesses to invest their revenues in paying workers and expanding operations. Even less than a one percent increase on the most profitable businesses earning hundreds of millions in profit will generate up to $8 billion in annual revenue. By having our most profitable corporations pay their fair share, we create a sustainable revenue stream for the things that make California thrive: our schools, our roads, and our families. And by lowering the burden on those just starting out in business and scaling with success, we ensure that our state’s entrepreneurs are not subsidizing the giants they are competing against.
