LGBTQ+ Protections

With Donald Trump’s attacks and dehumanization of LGBTQ+ people, California needs to step up to meet this moment and defend the rights that belong to every person in this country, regardless of who they love or how they identify. This is not a moment for our party or our leaders to turn their back on queer and trans Californians. As Governor, I will never stop fighting for the LGBTQ+ community and their rights to healthcare, housing, employment, and the freedom to live however they choose.

In Congress, I championed bills to protect LGBTQ+ youth, including legislation to better protect LGBTQ+ students from bullying and harassment and legislation to ban child welfare program providers from discriminating against LGBTQ+ kids. I pushed for legislation to better protect transgender Americans from losing their credit histories if they change their names. I am proud to have the support of LGBTQ+ leaders like Congressman Robert Garcia, who know that I will be a strong ally as Governor.
